Types of accidents

1. First aid : When a worker gets an                           injury need to under go for a primary treatment.

2. Non - lost time accidents : An
accident which result in a minor .the victims reports to duty within 48 hours of the accidents.

3. Lost time accident : Injured person after treatment at first aid centre taken to the outside hospital , worker required to be away from work for a continuous period of more than 48 hours or more due to the accident.

4. Serious accidents : When a worker is unfit for the work 21 days and more due to the accident.

5. Near miss : Accident has not happened  but it could have been happened . Unsafe act/ condition or minor property damage which may lead to major accident if immediate corrective action is not taken it can also be treated as near miss.

6. Fatal injury : Due to injury causes death or disability will cause loss to the earning capability of the worker.

7. Dangerous occurrence :

1. Hydrocarbons vapour leak, release of toxic gases.
2. Collapse or failure of a crane ,winch , hoist  or other appliance.
3. Collapse of any floor  , gallery  , roof , bridge tunnel  ,  chimney , wall , building  any other structure.

Safety is important because

1.Accident cause pain and suffering.
2.Accident are costly.
3.Accident lower morale and decrease productivity.
4.Accident reflect poorly on the management.
5.Cost of prevention of accident is lower than cost of handling them.
